Avoiding Workplace Violence

This 2-1/2 hour (half-day) O.S.H.A. approved workshop provides basic information regarding Workplace Violence.  It is divided into two sections. During the first period, situations leading to violence as well as identification of behaviors that may lead to violence will be covered. The focus of this workshop is to provide data helpful to the supervisor or co-worker in recognizing inappropriate behaviors and becoming aware of actions designed to diffuse tense situations before they escalate into violence. The second period is devoted to techniques and methods useful to reduce stress through behavior modifications. Both periods have been designed to assist in improving the atmosphere, effectiveness and safety of the workplace.

Managing Anger and Distress

This two-hour session looks at anger and its effects in the workplace.  There will be time for brainstorming during which participants will identify those events that lead to frustration, resentment and hostility.  Based on that input, techniques will be presented which will enable the participants to manage anger and appropriately respond to the irritating situation or challenge.  Participants will leave this workshop equipped with a personal “toolbox” filled with stress-reducing techniques.

Conflict Resolution

This two-hour interactive session deals with conflict.  It focuses on presenting information and techniques that will enable the participants to redirect a situation of conflict into one of collaboration.  Conflict is a normal, natural (and necessary) part of life; for many people, however, it is very frightening; for all people it most often is divisive and counterproductive.  In seeing the varied responses to conflict and learning techniques to diffuse and redirect conflict, the participants will better understand and deal with conflict situations in the future.  There will be time to practice these new techniques, as role-play is an integral part of this workshop.

Preventing Sexual Harassment

This 1-1/2 hour session reviews the laws surrounding Sexual Harassment – quid pro quo and work environment.  Case studies will be presented, explained and discussed so participants will have a clearer understanding of their responsibilities and boundaries as defined by the law.  This workshop has been developed to specifically address the behavior of supervisors and coworkers as it impacts on the employer regarding instances of sexual harassment in the workplace.

Time Management

This half day session examines the ways we duplicate our efforts during the workday.   By evaluating individual needs as well as time wasters, efficiency techniques are created.  At the completion of each session, the participant designs an action plan to maximize the use of their time and enhance the quality of their lives.

Enhancing Oral Communication

This half day session broadens the participants awareness regarding verbal communication styles and their impact.  Participants learn the skills to effectively listen while practicing empathy.  Practical techniques to gain mutual respect and enhance productivity are taught.  Role playing and group participation play an important part of this session.

Recruitment and Retention

This full day workshop provides managers and supervisors with the skill and knowledge necessary to hire the most qualified applicant while complying with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  Participants learn which type of questions are appropriate to ask an applicant during an interview as well as how to conduct an effective reference check and get the information they need while cutting through the red tape.  Effective retention techniques are reviewed.  Role playing and audience participation play an important part of this session.

Maximizing Employee Performance

This half day session provides supervisors and managers with critical information to keep them out of court while raising the standard of performance of those reporting to them.  Participants will learn how to communicate performance expectations and assure employees meet those objectives.  Role playing and audience participation play an important part of this session.

Conducting Employee Investigations

This step by step half day workshop examines the entire procedure for responding to employee allegations affecting your organization.  Participants will learn exactly what to do and how to ask appropriate questions to obtain the information they need to resolve the complaint while minimizing organizational liability.
